Stars bought inside the mobile apps lose 30% to Apple or Google first. Getting money out runs through Fragment, arrives as crypto rather than a bank transfer, needs a 1,000 Star minimum, and each Star sits under a 21 day hold. There is no invoice at the end, so if you sell to businesses or need VAT documentation, it does not produce the paperwork. How paid access actually works

Selling on the web separates the two jobs. Payment happens on a checkout page you control. Access happens in the chat app, granted by a bot connected to that checkout.

Four steps, and they run without you:

The buyer opens your sales page and pays by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a local method.
On the confirmation screen they connect their Discord or Telegram account.
The bot assigns the paid role, or sends a single use invite to the private channel.
When they cancel, refund, or file a chargeback, the same bot removes access at the end of the paid period.

Step four is the one people skip and regret. A paid role with no expiry is the most common configuration mistake in paid servers, and you will not notice it until a quarter of your private channel has stopped paying and stayed anyway.

What this structure buys you over the native route:

You choose the currency you sell in. Price in dollars for a US audience, in euros for an EU one, or in both, instead of pushing every member through a conversion their bank decides.
No app store fee, because the purchase never happens inside the mobile app.
You own the customer record. Email addresses, purchase history, and the ability to reach people who cancelled. Discord and Telegram give you a username and nothing else.
Coupons, installment plans, and affiliates are ordinary features on a sales platform and absent from both native systems.
Invoices and VAT handling exist, which matters the moment you sell to EU consumers or to businesses.

A resource library. Templates, presets, scripts, datasets, updated monthly. Low churn, low support load. $10 to $30 per month.

Pick one and put it in the first line of your sales page. "Private Discord" is not an offer, it is a delivery method.

How to split free and paid

If you already run a free community, do not convert it. People who joined something free and found it locked tend to leave loudly, and they take the room's activity with them. Keep the free server as the top of the funnel and open a separate paid space.

Two things fall out of that table. The app store is the most expensive line on the page: nothing else here takes 30%, so if your members buy on their phones, a native purchase costs you more than every platform fee combined. And flat monthly plans are a bet on volume: Skool's $9 plan and its $99 plan cross at roughly $1,270 of monthly revenue, so below that you are paying for a plan you have not grown into.

Where insy sits, stated plainly: 8% per payment charged on what is left after Stripe's fee, no monthly plan, and no country requirement to open an account. You price in the currency your audience actually pays in, and the affiliate program, coupons, installments, and the Discord and Telegram integrations come with it rather than as paid add ons. Setting it up in an afternoon

Write the offer in one sentence, naming who it is for and what arrives every week. "A teardown of one landing page every Tuesday, plus my answers to your questions within 24 hours."
Set one price. More than one tier before you have 50 paying members splits attention and gives you two half empty rooms.
Create the private channels on the server you already have, and set the paid role as the only way in.
Connect the checkout to the role, then buy your own product with a real card. Cancel it. Confirm the role disappears.
Write the welcome message before launch. A new member should know within 60 seconds where to introduce themselves, where to ask, and when you show up.
Publish the cancellation policy next to the price. Communities that hide the cancel button collect chargebacks, which cost more than the churn would have.

What kills paid chat communities

The quiet room. Under about 30 active members a chat community feels empty and cancels itself. Launch to a list big enough to fill it, or start with a cohort that has a date.
